 Why we have to pay for a tv licence - essentially a tax - Funds the bbc (which is a public service broadcaster)  ITV VS BBC  - BBC is a PSB whereas ITV is a moneymaking business (commercial) - Adverts on ITV, BBC profit is through UK tv licence - BBC provides education and of course, entertainment  - BBC cannot advertise products (product placement) eg. marmite is known as 'yeast extract' and branding is removed. Public service broadcasting - Generally transmit programming that aims to improve society by informing viewers - Also strive to entertain viewers, but this is less of a priority.  PSB golden rules - Reflects the diversity of the UK.
