Platforms eg... sky, netflix etc... (how the product is distributed Devices... eg... smartphone

My media consumption

- Product I consume: music                                                                                                                              - How this product is distributed: The spotify app and website : I gained access to this platform through a monthly subscription payment.

- Why whatsapp and not normal text ...  more attractive interface

- facebook... more professional account                                                                                                     -   -- snapchat... for very informal presentation                                                                                                  ---- instagram... in the middle

- Online shopping is consuming media in order to consume a RETAIL product, therefore it is not media product consumption!                                                                                                                                       - Curry's PC world is a retail outlet... it distributes technology, and therefore media products change in advertising and distribution

Consider the final 3 bullet points:                                                                                                                     - Did you buy the products / if so, where?                                                                                                       - Do you have to leave the house to access the product?                                                                                 - What devices do you use to consume the product?

Synergy = two or more companies working together in production of a media production (+ both making a profit) e.g.. marvel and dc instead of competing over the same superhero loving audience, they work together to share the audience and the profit.

Horizontal integration = a company owning other companies of other areas in media

Vertical integration ... eg. netflix ... produces the product and distributes it to the audience

Create a timeline of your own usage of web 2.0 technologies                                                                    -- What new developments have there been in your lifetime?                                                                            - What kind of innovations have you seen?                                                                                                      - Would you consider yourself a digital native?

- Product I consume: music                                                                                                                              - How this product is distributed: The spotify app and website : I gained access to this platform through a monthly subscription payment.                                                                                                                         - Usage : Daily                                                                                                                                           ............. 1. The structure here is a little off and there appears to be a fair amount missing - please don't leave gaps. If you know you need to go back to the blog post at a later date, get into the habit of doing so please.

Go back through the powerpoint and add bits in.

    Below please respond:
What is the Uses and Gratifications theory?

    Define these key words:
    Traditional advertising
    Digital advertising
    Above the line advertising
    Below the line advertising

    1. The uses and gratifications theory is a theory by Blumler and Katz, on their interpretation on reasons for people to consume media, and the types of 'gratification' and 'use' they gain from media. The uses and gratifications include: escapism, entertainment, personal identity, information and personal relationships.

Traditional advertising generally means 'non-digital' forms of advertising, like billboards, television ads, leaflets, ads in magazines, posters, radio ads etc...

Digital advertising is essentially the opposite of tradition advertising, and as implied by the name, advertising through digital means.
This includes: website pop up ads, video ads before youtube videos or before watching a programme (eg. on the All 4 website), ads on social media apps like instagram, sponsorships and pr with use of social media influencers, etc.......

Above the line advertising refers to bold, obvious, generally less subtle forms of advertising. This includes television ads, billboards, video ads on youtube, leaflets, posters etc...

Below the line advertising is more subtle, closely targeted advertisement, with specific psychographic targeting. This can be done more accurately digitally, for example by recommending youtube videos or instagram posts based on the people you know, the thingsbyou're interested in, the job you have, where you live and your social media history. More examples of below the line advertising include pop up ads, instagram account advertisements and banners on websites.
-Not 100% sure about those examples (?)
